Open Juvenile Synchro

TEAM LEVEL: OPEN JUVENILE

Testing Requirements are set forth not only by the U.S. Figure Skating association, but also by the Northern Lights Figure Skating Club. Each of our teams has testing and age requirements that our skaters must meet. The tests that we are referring to on this page are U.S. Figure Skating tests that require a private coach and U.S. Figure Skating certified judges, who are flown-in to conduct a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned test session. These tests are not to be confused with the Basic Skills badge tests that are conducted during group lessons. U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned test sessions are hosted by the NLFSC twice a year, usually in December and March. There are also sessions hosted in other area cities. Please see the U.S. Figure Skating Testing tab for these dates and places.

Below you will find the testing, age, lesson and/or other requirements U.S. Figure Skating and/or NLFSC has set in place for each team. Please note that although synchronized skating is a team sport, it is essential that each team member be a strong and well rounded individual skater. This is why we encourage all of our synchronized skaters to test Moves in the Field, Dance and Freeskate

  • TEAM LEVEL:  Open Juvenile
  • NUMBER OF SKATERS:  8-20 skaters
  • AGE REQUIREMENTS:  All skaters must be under age 20 on the preceding July 1.
  • REQUIRED:  USFS requires all skaters to have passed the pre-preliminary Moves in the Field Test. NLFSC requires skaters to have passed or currently be on the Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field Test. In addition, one 15-minute private lesson per week to continue to learn and test MIF and attempt at least one U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned test (MIF, Dance or Free Skate) during the skating year (April 1-March 31).
  • RECOMMENDED:  Bronze Dance test and one 15-minute private lesson per week to continue to learn and test dance.
  • PERFORMANCES: 4 - NLFSC Holiday Exhibition (December), Green Wave hockey game performance and the Annual Ice Show - 2 performances (March)
  • COMPETITIONS:   - Maplewood Synchro Classic (Minneapolis - December), Northern Star (East Grand Forks - January), Skate Chicago (January), Midwestern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships (Rockford, IL - January),
  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Skaters at the Open Juvenile level are expected to continue to test their MIF and Dances at a steady pace. The requirements stated are only a starting point and the minimum to be a member of the team. Skaters are expected to continue to improve as an individual skater throughout their years on the team. If you have further questions regarding testing and/or synchro for the Open Juvenile level, please contact the skating director. All performances and competitions are subject to change.

*Skaters who do not meet the requirements prior to tryouts will be looked at on a case-by-case basis. Our number one priority is to form 5 teams that will be successful at the competition level they skate at. This means that there may be times when a skater who does not meet the requirements may be placed on a team with the understanding that the individual will work toward completing the requirements prior to the end of the season. There may also be times when skaters who do meet the requirements may not be placed on a team for a variety of reasons. The synchronized skating coaches and the coordinator reserve the right to choose how the teams are formed and any changes to the requirements at any time.

**All NLFSC and Parks and Recreation fees must be paid in full prior to the beginning of the season in order to participate on a competitive team. In addition, all competitive team members are required to participate in fundraising opportunities.

Welcome to the 2025-2026 Skating Registration!

This registration session will allow you to complete contact information, sign up for participation, and submit payment. Please read through each page carefully to ensure that all information is provided accurately.  The Participation Policy for those residing outside of the EGF city limits remains in place.  Also, please be sure to use current emails as we use this site for communicating with parents/guardians. To complete registration through our secure site, please have your Visa, MasterCard, or Discover account information available. Following the completion of this registration, you will see a charge on your account from City of East Grand Forks. The registration session will be open from Monday, August 18th and run through Wednesday, September 10th. After September 10th, $50 late fees will be applied to all activity registrations. The last day to complete registration for the 2025-2026 Winter programs will be Wednesday, September 24th.

The East Grand Forks Youth Skating Program is setup for residents of the city of East Grand Forks and those living outside of the EGF city limits but within Polk County who attend school in East Grand Forks.

Because our recreation programs are subsidized through residents' property taxes, all participants living outside of the EGF City Limits are charged a $40 additional fee per activity. The registration question that asks if you are a Resident within the city limits is answered on the honor system. If found to have answered incorrectly, you will be charged the additional $40 per activity fee plus a $35 administrative fee.

All users will need to setup an account through our new Sports Connect website to complete the registration process.

Our Learn to Skate program is designed to introduce individual skaters to a variety of skills. We use the United States Figure Skating Basic Skills Learn-to-Skate Program to teach all participants the fundamentals of skating. Skaters progress through the various levels and are tested at each level before moving on to a higher level. Participants must be at least 3 years of age to begin in the LTS lessons and also must be able to be on the ice without parents/guardians.

The registration is setup with options for those just in the Learn-to-Skate Program and also options for those in both the Learn-to-Skate and Synchronized Skating Programs. If participating in both programs, please select the combined pricing option when completing registration.
